United States 2018 National Moo Duk Kwan® Festival Montgomery, Texas

The 2018 National Festival of the United States Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Federation® was held  in Montgomery, Texas, just North of Houston at the La Torenta Lake Resort and Spa.

The USA welcomed World Moo Duk Kwan members not only from the U.S., but also countries such as Korea,  Australia, France, Spain, Mexico and several others.

Hosted again this year by Region 6 with Sa Bom Nim Gene Riggs serving as volunteer coordinator helping focus the efforts and support of all Region 6 schools, their students, families and friends.

The schools nearest to the Festival site and their students provided tremendous local ground support while distant schools like Kicknfit Karate in Enid, Oklahoma, Oklahoma Karate Academy and others focused on inspiring and helping their students to attend this event:

  • Houston Soo Bahk Do, Ron Williams, Sa Bom Nim
  • Montgomery Karate Soo Bahk Do,  Travis Guinn, Sa Bom Nim
  • Tomball Karate, John Lupone Sa Bom Nim
  • Carthage Karate, Gene Riggs Sa Bom Nim
  • Dallas Ft Worth Soo Bahk Do, Ed Horni Sa Bom Nim

Highlighting this years festival was the introduction of the Ship Dan Khum hyung series sequence 1 through 3.  The introduction presentation by Craig Hays, Sa Bom Nim, TAC Chairman.  Open to all dan members.  Part of the introduction by our Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang.

Also several promotions including the Chil Dan promotion of Kriton Glenn Sa Bom Nim, the designee for Australia and also the World Moo Duk Kwan Symposium Chair.

Congratulations to all the participants, new promotions, and the international community that traveled many miles to attend, SOO BAHK!  Godspeed and safe travels home!

Began training in 1967 at the age of 16, as a member of the Brooklyn Highland Park Y.M.C.A., under the guidance and training of Mr. Mike Masley, Jr., Dan Bon 10180, and tested for Cho Dan on June 18, 1969.  Now a certified 4th Dan Ko Dan Ja, and was issued his original testing date Dan Bon 13927 by Kwan Jang Nim H.C. Hwang based on his petition to honor that date and evidence showing Mr. Mike Masley and his instructors,  Mr. Robert Sohn, Dan Bon 6037 and Mr. Vincent Nunno, Dan Bon 7291, were legitimate representatives of the Founder, and Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee and the Korean Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Association in 1969.
